Open model.mdp (coming from extracted MDA) in modeler 5.9.1

For a very old project we only have a MDA available. Unfortunately it seems that the team server project is removed so we can't do a TS checkout. In the old days you could just rename model.mdp to model.mpr and it would open. Now the modeler gives an error: "This is not a project file”. Is there any way / hack to get the modeler to open the model.mdp? Mx version: 5.9.1

This isn’t possible since version 3 anymore.

In the old days the mdp and mpr files were the same files with a different extension, but from version 3 on the two files are completely different.
