Start work on a SAP App with no ODATA service available

Hi, Has anyone worked on an app integrating with SAP ? Is it possible to start building the App without having any ODATA Services ? Also, When the service is available at later stage or updated at a later stage, can the domain model be built updated according to that? Thanks, Sweta.
